Deck Staining
What you should know
-
Overtime decks, like all other exterior wood structures, will begin to deteriorate if left unprotected.
It is imperative to properly stain and seal all exterior wood structures to prevent UV and moisture damage.
Decks are prone to rotting, warping, and splitting if left un-sealed. This leads to an eye sore, splinters in your feet, and safety risks.
A proper application of a high quality stain and sealer will help prevent these issues, as well as enhance and maintain the structure’s visual appearance.

The condition of your deck will dictate what stain is needed.
For new decks we use and recommend a high quality penetrating oil based stain and sealer.
A high quality oil based product works to simultaniously lock out unwanted moisture and UV rays, while infusing and moisturizing the structure with natural oils necessary for a strong, long lasting fence.
For older decks, a water based solid stain will work best. Solid water based stains are great at covering up imperfections and age, and can also blend recently replaced boards with older existing boards.
The stain you choose will not only affect the visual appearance of your fence, but also dictate the level of maintenance required down the road.
